After a great season in Serie A, when Napoli finished second, Aurelio De Laurentiis announced bigger objectives for the next season. With a well trained team, having players like Cavani and Hamsik and with a new coach Rafa Benitez, these objectives were achievable.
But this extraordinary season in Serie A did not remain unnoticed and the most important player left the club. After intense negotiations Cavani left for PSG for €63 millions, leaving a huge void in Napoli’s attack. Everybody expected a spectacular acquisition campaign from Napoli and this has already happened as Rafa Benitez managed to bring some extraordinary players to San Paolo.
Defender Raul Albiol and attacker Jose Maria Callejon have already left Santiago Bernabeu for the San Paolo, while Dries Mertens, Pablo Armero
and Rafael, have also joined the team as Benitez looks to compensate the loss of the Uruguayan hitman. A few days later Liverpool manager, Brendan Rodgers, has confirmed that experienced goalkeeper Pepe Reina is set to join Napoli on a season-long loan.
And that was not all, as Napoli were about to make one of the most spectacular transfer. The Serie A club have had a fresh bid of €37 million for Gonzalo Higuain accepted by the Spanish club and Napoli had only to convince the player to move to the San Paolo. It was not long and Napoli announced that Higuain sign the contract.
Arsenal and Juventus were also interested in signing Higuain.
With these transfers, Napoli announces as a major candidate to win the Serie A and why not Champions League.
